TAKING EFFECT ON AUGUST 9TH 2024
LD. 2224 An Act to Strengthen Public Safety by Improving Maine's Firearm Laws and Mental Health System. This will require background checks on ALL advertised firearms sales (such as Uncle Henry's or other online or newspaper ads). See the FFL TRANSFERS PAGE for more info. This legislation takes effect on August 9th 2024.

LD 2238 "An Act to Address Gun Violence in Maine by Requiring a Waiting Period for Certain Firearm Purchases"
LD 2238 would require a 72-hour waiting period after the purchase of a firearm. A 72-hour waiting period between the purchase of a firearm and the transfer from a seller to a buyer will come into effect August 9th 2024. Expect to have to make two trips when enacted unless it is reversed.

Be aware that most dealers make a lot of money at Maine gun shows. Sometimes prices are higher and they bring items that have been hard for them to sell.
