Gun Owners of Maine is an all-volunteer, grassroots, nonprofit organization dedicated to defending and promoting the gun rights of Mainers, and we are the only Maine organization focused on this issue alone. We monitor developments affecting gun owners on both the State and Federal levels, tracking bills in the Legislature and the Congress, and act as a watchdog on governmental agencies.
Gun Owners of Maine tracks, analyzes and reports on issues of importance to gun owners, identifying and getting the word out to gun owners on threats to, and opportunities for our gun rights.
We believe that gun rights are fundamental to a free people, and it is our mission to preserve and extend them. The threats to our rights from anti-gun politicians and activists are constant; every year, new bills are introduced in the Legislature and the Congress which would hack away at our rights. Gun Owners of Maine opposes these threats through grassroots action, providing information, analysis and action plans to gun owners, to make their political might felt in Augusta and in Washington.
Please join us, to make our voice louder. Join our Facebook group or our web forums to keep abreast of current anti-gun threats as well as pro-gun opportunities. If you can, please seriously consider becoming a supporting member of Gun Owners of Maine with a paid membership. As a paying member, you not only support our mission financially, but you send a clear message to politicians that you are a serious and committed member of the gun rights community. The larger our member base, the more respect we command with elected officials.

The GOA Story
GOA was founded in 1975 by Sen. H.L. (Bill) Richardson (now retired). The GOA Board of Directors brings over 100 years of combined knowledge and experience on guns, legislation and politics. GOA’s Board is not satisfied with the “status quo.” Americans have lost some of our precious gun rights and we want them back! This is why GOA is considered the “no compromise” gun lobby.
From state legislatures and city councils to the United States Congress and the White House, GOA represents the views of gun owners whenever their rights are threatened.
The National Association for Gun Rights (NAGR) is a conservative gun rights advocacy group in the United States. They maintain an affiliated PAC and a nonprofit legal foundation. Officially incorporated in Virginia on March 29, 2000, NAGR was founded by Dudley Brown as a national companion organization to Rocky Mountain Gun Owners. NAGR is a rival of the National Rifle Association and considers itself the "conservative alternative" to the NRA.
The Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) is dedicated to promoting a better understanding about our Constitutional heritage to privately own and possess firearms.
To that end, we carry on many educational and legal action programs designed to better inform the public about the gun control debate.
The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) is an American national trade association for the firearms industry that is based in Newtown, Connecticut. Formed in 1961, the organization has more than 8,000 members: firearms manufacturers, distributors, retailers, shooting ranges, sportsmen's clubs and media.
The NSSF mission is "To promote, protect and preserve hunting and the shooting sports". In addition to promoting gun ownership, the NSSF helps write safety and instruction standards. The NSSF sponsors the annual Shooting Hunting and Outdoor Trade Show, the (SHOT Show). The NSSF has advocated in favor of gun rights, including arguing against limits on high capacity magazines and the broad use of the term "assault weapon". It has also supported legislation allowing concealed carry and has offered proposals to prohibit the Environmental Protection Agency from regulating chemicals in ammunition as well as other sports such as fishing where lead is routinely used for its density.
Ducks Unlimited is the world's leader in wetlands and waterfowl conservation.
DU got its start in 1937 during the Dust Bowl when North America's drought-plagued waterfowl populations had plunged to unprecedented lows. Determined not to sit idly by as the continent's waterfowl dwindled beyond recovery, a small group of sportsmen joined together to form an organization that became known as Ducks Unlimited. Its mission: habitat conservation
When the National Wild Turkey Federation was founded in 1973, there were about 1.3 million wild turkeys in North America. After decades of dedicated work, that number hit a historic high of almost 7 million turkeys thanks to the tremendous efforts of our dedicated volunteers, professional staff and committed partners.
The mission of the National Wild Turkey Federation is no less urgent today than when it was founded in 1973. What we do in the coming decades will be instrumental in not only enhancing wild turkey populations but also in the continuation of hunting and quality wildlife habitat for countless species.
The National Wildlife Federation, America's largest and most trusted conservation organization, works across the country to unite Americans from all walks of life in giving wildlife a voice. We've been on the front lines for wildlife since 1936, fighting for the conservation values that are woven into the fabric of our nation's collective heritage.
The Institute for Legislative Action (ILA) is the lobbying arm of the NRA. Established in 1975, ILA is committed to preserving the right of all law-abiding individuals to purchase, possess and use firearms for legitimate purposes as guaranteed by the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
Beginning in the mid 1970s, the threat to our outdoor heritage became so great that a group of business leaders took it upon themselves to organize sportsmen to fight to protect hunting, fishing and trapping opportunities across the country.
What started as the defense of an Ohio trapping issue in 1977 with national implications, soon evolved into the country’s leading advocate for sportsmen across the country — The Sportsmen’s Alliance and the Sportsmen’s Alliance Foundation.
For nearly four decades, the Sportsmen’s Alliance has fought to protect and advance our outdoor heritage of hunting, fishing, trapping and shooting in all 50 state legislatures, in the courts, in Congress and at the ballot box. As Sportsmen’s Alliance’s work continues to grow stronger so too has the animal rights movement.
Since 1989, the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation (CSF) has maintained a singleness of purpose that has guided the organization to become the most respected and trusted sportsmen’s organization in the political arena. CSF’s mission is to work with Congress, governors, and state legislatures to protect and advance hunting, angling, recreational shooting and trapping.
