Shear Stability
High engine rpm common to scooter applications increases shear, causing conventional lubricants to lose viscosity and reduce their ability to control wear, resulting in shorter engine life. The synthetic formulation of Formula 4-Stroke Synthetic Scooter Oil effectively resists shear, delivering consistent viscosity protection for outstanding wear protection and extended equipment life.
Thermal Stability
Scooter engine operating temperatures fluctuate greatly, especially in air-cooled engines. Formula 4-Stroke Synthetic Scooter Oil resists breakdown at elevated temperatures, maintaining its protective viscosity for maximum wear control.
Transmission and Gear Box Compatibility
In many scooter applications, the engine and transmission and gearbox share the same oil reservoir. Formula 4-Stroke Synthetic Scooter Oil is shear stable and resists thinning from mechanical activity, providing superior protection for transmissions and gearboxes.
Wet-Clutch Compatibility
Some scooters employ a frictional clutch to engage and disengage the engine from the drivetrain. In many cases, this clutch is immersed in the same oil used in the engine and transmission. Formula 4-Stroke Synthetic Scooter Oil is wet-clutch compatible. It contains no friction modifiers, offering smooth clutch operation and increased clutch life.
Rust and Corrosion Protection
Scooters are often subjected to extended periods of inactivity and storage, exposing the equipment to internal rust and corrosion. Formula 4-Stroke Synthetic Scooter Oil is formulated with a special anti-corrosion additive package designed to provide long-term protection during periods of inactivity and storage.
- Protects against wear
- Resists shear for excellent gear protection
- Delivers smooth clutch operation
Applications and Recommendations
Use wherever SAE 10W-40 motor oil is specified in air-and water-cooled four-stroke motorized scooter engines, transmissions and gearboxes recommended for any of the specifications below, including those made by Honda*, Kawasaki*, Suzuki,* Yamaha*, Vespa*, Aprilia*, Piaggio*, Benelli*, Vento*, Kymco*, Tank* and TGB*.
- API SG, SL/CF
- JASO MA/MA2 (motorcycle wet clutch)
- ISO-L-EMA2
Service Life
Follow the equipment manufacturer's recommended drain intervals.
Compatibility
AMSOIL Formula 4-Stroke Synthetic Scooter Oil is compatible with other synthetic and conventional motor oils. Mixing AMSOIL motor oil with other oils, however, will shorten the oil's life expectancy and reduce its performance benefits. AMSOIL does not support extended drain intervals where oils have been mixed.
Aftermarket oil additives are not recommended for use with AMSOIL motor oils

Designed Specifically for Chaincases & Gearcases
To reduce initial costs, some enthusiasts use automatic transmission fluid or gear lube in their snowmobile and ATV chaincases and gearcases. Neither fluid, however, is engineered for these applications. Automatic transmission fluid is a hydraulic fluid formulated without the extreme-pressure additives needed to provide enhanced wear protection, leaving gears and chains vulnerable to premature failure. Automotive gear lube is designed to lubricate hypoid gears and is too thick for proper chain and gear lubrication in powersports applications, impairing circulation and leading to wear and decreased energy efficiency.
AMSOIL Synthetic Chaincase & Gear Oil is specifically engineered to meet the demands of enclosed chaincases and gearcases, providing extreme-pressure protection and low-temperature fluidity for superior performance and protection.
Long-Lasting Protection
AMSOIL Synthetic Chaincase & Gear Oil is a 100 percent synthetic formulation that resists shear and chemical breakdown better than conventional fluids. Its superior base oils and additives provide long-lasting protection.
- Extreme-pressure additives promote long chain and gear life
- Inhibits rust and oxidation
- Low-temperature fluidity ensures maximum energy efficiency
- Lasts longer than conventional oils
- Recommended for use in Arctic Cat® Diamond Drive gearcases
'SERVICE LIFE
Recommended for the drain intervals established by the OEM.
COMPATIBILITY
AMSOIL Synthetic Chaincase & Gear Oil is compatible with conventional and synthetic chaincase oils. Mixing AMSOIL Synthetic Chaincase & Gear Oil with other oils, however, will reduce its performance benefits.

AMSOIL Synthetic Marine Gear Lube is an exclusive AMSOIL formulation of synthetic base oils and high-performance additives that addresses the specific concerns of marine applications. It is fortified with extreme-pressure (EP) additives for superior protection of fast-accelerating, high-torque/horsepower engines. It protects against shock loading from cavitation of heavily loaded engines.
AMSOIL Synthetic Marine Gear Lube is water resistant. It maintains extreme-pressure protection even when contaminated with as much as 10 percent water. It promotes longer seal life to help prevent water contamination. AMSOIL Synthetic Marine Gear Lube is designed to prevent rust and is compatible with aluminum, copper and brass alloys.
Marine gear oils operate in environments subject to water contamination. The chart above demonstrates the ability of AMSOIL Synthetic Marine Gear Lube to maintain designed qualities such as extreme-pressure/anti-wear performance and resistance to foaming, even when subjected to 10 percent water contamination.
The Falex Procedure is a measurement of a gear lube's extreme-pressure and anti-wear properties. A high value in the Falex Extreme-Pressure Test relates to extra extreme-pressure protection. AMSOIL Synthetic Marine Gear Lube provides extreme-pressure protection and is highly resistant to the effects of water contamination.
The presence of foam in a lubricant disrupts the oil film and promotes wear. Water contamination can increase the likelihood of foaming. Industry-standard testing demonstrates zero foam in both new and water-contaminated AMSOIL Synthetic Marine Gear Lube.
- Excellent gear and bearing protection, even when contaminated with 10% water
- Reduced friction and wear
- Protection against rust and corrosion
- Long seal life
- Superior foam prevention
APPLICATIONS
Use in fresh- and saltwater applications that require 75W-90 or 80W-90 gear lube and any of the specifications listed below, including lower units made by Mercury/Mariner*, Johnson/Evinrude*, Bombardier*, Honda*, Yamaha*, Suzuki*, Force/US Marine*, Nissan*, Tohatsu* and Harbormaster*; sterndrives made by Mercruiser-Bravo*, OMC/Bombardier, Volvo-Penta*, Yanmar*, Konrad* and Marine Drive Systems*; V-drives made by Casale & Menkins*; bow thrusters made by Harbormaster Marine*; and transmissions made by ZF Marine Transmission*.
• API GL-4, GL-5
COMPATIBILITY
AMSOIL Synthetic Marine Gear Lube is compatible with other commercially available conventional and synthetic marine gear lubes.
Follow manufacturers' recommended service intervals.
It is generally a good idea to change gear lube at the end of a season prior to storage.
